Apprenticeship FAQs

Got a question about apprenticeships, on-job training or day release schemes? You'll likely find the answer here. If not, please give us a call on     01296 737800

Why ATG?

  1. ATG is the only training organization that will give you real hands-on practical skills - NOT JUST THEORY.
  2. We provide free transport from Milton Keynes and High Wycombe each day
  3. We trained over 1000 people last year
  4. We have been training young people for the last forty years.

Will I have a job to go to?

We have a great team who work hard to get you a permanent job with an employer. We help you to develop your CV and arrange interviews with employers. We offer advice on interview techniques and we have a very high success rate in securing you a job; over 90% of our learners leave us to go into full time jobs as Apprentices.

What qualifications will I gain?

What will I gain from my time in ATG's training centre, learning to be an Engineer, an ICT Systems technician or Electrical Installation engineer?

The qualifications you will gain from an ATG in-centre apprenticeship are as follows:

  • NVQ Level 2
  • Level 2 Technical Certificate (such as City and Guilds)
  • Key Skills (you may be exempt from some of these depending on your GCSE/A Level results)
  • ERR (Employer Rights and Responsibilities)
  • Apprenticeship Framework Certificate
  • You will also benefit from the opportunity to work with instructors who have years of experience within the industry.

Do I get paid whilst completing my apprenticeship?

Whilst training during the first six months at ATG as outlined, you can claim up to £30 a week EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) if you are aged between 16 – 19 years old and are eligible. If you join one of our Engineering, ICT Systems or Electrical Installation training programmes we will send you an EMA pack.

Will EMA affect any other benefits my family receives?

You cannot receive both EMA and Jobseeker’s Allowance. Any other benefits, whether they are for you, your parents or carers, will not be lost or reduced. You’ll also be able to keep whatever extra income you may earn from a part-time job.

Adult Learning Grant (ALG)

To get ALG, you need to be 19 or over, and studying in England. Whether you’re eligible also depends on the course you are taking, and your income. You could get up to £30 per week while you’re studying. Contact us for more details.

If you are employed in any other job and start an apprenticeship you will of course already be receiving wages so are not eligible for any further payments.

How long does an Apprenticeship last?

This will vary. For Engineering, ICT Systems and Electrical Installation and you are unemployed or a school leaver, or in work but wishing to gain a highly valued qualification and change your career direction, you can join one of our six months full time training programmes. We will help you to find a job at the end of it. The remainder of your apprenticeship will take a further 18 months.

This six months training is also open to you if you are employed and your employer agrees that you can attend the training programme to gain the skills needed. Many employers do so. Please call us to discuss the option as we can usually help. Call   01296 737800 or email future@atg-training.co.uk address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

For all other employments such as Care, Child Care, Administration, Management and many others, you will need to be in work already. We will then train you to gain the Apprenticeship which takes about 15 months and you can then progress on to an Advanced Apprenticeship which takes about a further 18 months.
