It was really amazing to welcome a cohort of British Cycling coaches into our Stafford workshop recently, which included none other than Team GB’s most decorated Olympian, Sir Jason Kenny.

It is always an honour for us to work with British Cycling. Over the years, we have regularly trained their mechanics and even had groups of their team riders attend our courses. This time around, it was the turn of their coaching team. For British Cycling, it’s very important for their coaches to be professionally trained and accredited in cycle maintenance in addition to their normal coaching role.

The group was attending a Cytech technical one course as part of their coaching remit, is being able to deal with minor mechanical issues that can arise on the fly. It’s crucial that they can carry out quick basic repairs when out with their respective racing teams or on training camps - it’s all about keeping the wheels and pedals turning smoothly, so the athletes can focus on their training and development.

Our Stafford workshop trainer, Mike Whitworth, worked with the cohort to make sure the course content covered all the different types of bikes being used for racing – road, mountain bike, track and also adaptive bikes for their para cycling teams.

We would like to wish all the coaches (and their respective racing teams), all the very best of luck at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Paris in the summer.

It's National Apprenticeship Week!

As we’re celebrating #NAW24 , it only seemed appropriate that we caught up with a group of our apprentices currently attending their Cytech Level 2 course at our Stafford workshop.

This cohort from Evans Cycles, started their 18-month bicycle mechanics apprenticeship with us back in the Autumn. As part of their training, we include Cytech Level 2 and Level 3 within the apprenticeship syllabus, meaning that all our apprentices gain these highly regarded and industry recognised certificates on completion of their apprenticeship.

They have all travelled to Stafford from different Evans Cycles stores across the country and are benefitting, not only from the excellent Cytech technical training, but are also building great team camaraderie and inter-store relationships across their dealer network.

It's been great to hear all the positive comments and feedback from this cohort about their training so far - we wish them all the best of luck for the remaining journey of their apprenticeship.

Congratulations Freya Heard, who is completing a Bicycle Mechanic Level 2 Apprenticeship and has been recognised by our partners Activate Learning as their Apprentice of The Month.

Freya says: "My favourite part of my apprenticeship so far has been the Cytech courses, as I was able to gain lots of knowledge, which will help me in my role and my career. I enjoy being an apprentice because every day is different."

"I’ve also gained knowledge of suspension servicing, which is very useful as it involves changing fluids and inspecting the bike’s suspension for wear or damage and is a type of bike maintenance which cyclists regularly require."
