Apprenticeship in Children's Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) Details

Apprentices work in a wide range of settings including full day care, crèches, nursery and primary schools, playgroups, children’s centres and child minders and nannies. The Apprenticeship prepares you for delivering early years care and education and can lead to an Advanced Apprenticeship. The underpinning skills and knowledge for the Apprenticeship are provided in ATG’s training rooms or at your employer’s premises. Assessment of competence is carried out in the workplace.

Who Should Participate?

All those wishing to gain Level 2 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. It is relevant for anyone who works with children from birth to eight years of age in nurseries, pre-school, parent or toddler groups and primary schools. It is suitable for learners who deliver support under the direct supervision of a colleague who has overall responsibility. Job roles include Nursery Assistant and Pre-school Assistant. Funding could be available for those under 25.

Learners are expected to have a degree of personal confidence and maturity. An ability to relate to children and good communication skills are essential.

  • NVQ Level 2 (seven units)
  • Technical Certificate.

NVQ Level 2 is delivered in the workplace. Apprentices are assigned a qualified, occupationally competent assessor at the beginning of the programme, who supports and guides them through the Apprenticeship.
